Hermine Bareiss took over the Gasthaus Kranz in Mitteltal in 1947, during inhospitable times. Her husband, Forester Jakob Bareiss, was one of the many who never returned from the war. And thus the young widow was forced to care for herself and her children. She evidently enjoyed her hostess role because the hotel developed well.
